Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the site’s operators about how visitors use the site.
Cookies can be “first-party” (set by the website you’re visiting) or “third-party” (set by an external service used by the website, such as an analytics or advertising provider). They can be “session cookies” (deleted when you close your browser) or “persistent cookies” (remain on your device until they expire or you delete them).
2. How We Use Cookies
LegalZone.com uses cookies and similar tracking technologies for three purposes: to make the Site function properly, to understand how visitors use the Site, and to support our affiliate partnerships. We categorize our cookies into three types based on their purpose and your consent requirements.
3. Types of Cookies We Use
3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
Consent required: No
These cookies are essential for the Site to function. Without them, the Site cannot operate properly. They enable core functionality such as page navigation, security features, form submissions, and cookie consent management. They do not collect personal data for marketing or analytics purposes.
Cookie consent preference
Purpose: Remembers your cookie consent choices so you’re not asked on every page visit
Duration: 13 months
Type: First-party, persistent
Session management
Purpose: Maintains your browsing session and security state
Duration: Session (deleted when browser closes)
Type: First-party, session
Security cookies
Purpose: Protect against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) and other security threats
Duration: Session
Type: First-party, session
3.2 Analytics Cookies
Consent required: Yes
These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the Site — which pages are visited most, how long visitors stay, where they come from, and what content is most useful. This data is collected in aggregate or anonymized form and is used to improve the Site’s content, structure, and performance.
Analytics cookies are only activated after you provide consent via our cookie consent banner. If you decline analytics cookies, no analytics data is collected from your visit.

• Data retention: Analytics data is retained for a maximum of 26 months, in accordance with CNIL recommendations.
• Signals disabled: Google Signals (cross-device tracking) is disabled.
3.3 Affiliate and Marketing Cookies
Consent required: Yes
When you click on affiliate links on LegalZone.com (such as links to business formation services, registered agent providers, or legal tools), the third-party provider may place cookies on your device to track that you were referred by our Site. If you subsequently purchase a service, the cookie allows the provider to attribute the referral and pay us a commission.
These cookies are set by third-party affiliate networks and partner websites — not by LegalZone.com. They are only activated after you provide consent via our cookie consent banner and after you click an affiliate link.
Affiliate tracking cookies
Purpose: Track referral source for affiliate commission attribution
Duration: 30–90 days (varies by affiliate program)
Type: Third-party, persistent
Providers: Various affiliate networks (CJ Affiliate, Impact, FlexOffers, ShareASale, or individual partner programs)
We do not use cookies for retargeting, behavioral advertising, or building advertising profiles. We do not sell or share cookie data with data brokers.
4. Cookie Consent
4.1 How We Obtain Consent
In accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the ePrivacy Directive, and CNIL (Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés) recommendations, we obtain your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device.
When you first visit LegalZone.com, a cookie consent banner is displayed, giving you the option to:
• Accept all cookies: Enables strictly necessary, analytics, and affiliate cookies.
• Reject non-essential cookies: Only strictly necessary cookies are used. Analytics and affiliate cookies are blocked.
• Customize preferences: Choose which categories of cookies to accept or reject individually.
4.2 Consent is Freely Given
You are not required to accept non-essential cookies to use the Site. All content, guides, templates, and resources on LegalZone.com are accessible regardless of your cookie preferences. Refusing analytics and affiliate cookies does not limit your access to any functionality.
4.3 Withdrawing Consent
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of any page on the Site. This reopens the consent banner, allowing you to modify your choices. Previously placed cookies will be deleted according to the method described in Section 5.
4.4 Consent Duration
In accordance with CNIL guidelines, your consent preferences are stored for a maximum of 13 months. After 13 months, the consent banner will reappear, and you will be asked to confirm your preferences again. This ensures your consent remains current and informed.
5. Managing and Deleting Cookies
5.1 Through Our Cookie Settings
Click “Cookie Settings” in the footer of any page to access the cookie preference panel. You can enable or disable each category of non-essential cookies at any time.
5.2 Through Your Browser
You can also manage cookies through your web browser settings. Most browsers allow you to view, manage, block, and delete cookies. Please note that blocking all cookies (including strictly necessary cookies) may cause some features of the Site to not function properly.
Instructions for managing cookies in major browsers:
• Google Chrome
• Mozilla Firefox
• Apple Safari
• Microsoft Edge
5.3 Do Not Track (DNT)
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting. There is no industry standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. Currently, LegalZone.com does not respond to DNT signals differently, but we respect your cookie consent preferences as described in this policy, which provides more granular and effective control than DNT.
6. Similar Technologies
In addition to cookies, we may use similar technologies that serve comparable purposes:
• Local storage: Similar to cookies but stored locally in your browser. Used to remember preferences and improve performance. Cleared when you clear your browser data.
• Pixel tags / web beacons: Small transparent images embedded in pages or emails that confirm content was accessed. Used in analytics and email open-rate tracking. No personal data is collected beyond the fact that the content was viewed.
• Server logs: Our hosting provider records standard server access logs (IP address, page requested, timestamp, browser type) for security and performance purposes. These logs are retained for 12 months.
7. Third-Party Cookies and Privacy
Third-party cookies placed on your device (primarily by Google Analytics and affiliate networks) are governed by the respective third party’s privacy policy — not ours. We encourage you to review these policies:
• Google Analytics: Google Privacy Policy — Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on
• Affiliate networks: Each affiliate program has its own privacy policy, accessible on their respective websites. Common networks include CJ Affiliate, Impact, FlexOffers, and ShareASale.
EJB SAS is not responsible for the data collection or privacy practices of third-party cookie providers. Our role is limited to enabling or disabling these cookies based on your consent preferences.
8. Cookies and Children
LegalZone.com is not directed to individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children through cookies or any other means. If you believe a child has accessed the Site and cookies have been set on their device, you can delete them using the browser instructions in Section 5.2.
9. International Visitors
This Cookie Policy complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the ePrivacy Directive (Directive 2002/58/EC), French data protection law (Loi Informatique et Libertés), and CNIL recommendations on cookies and trackers.
For visitors from other jurisdictions:
• United Kingdom: We comply with the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
• California (US): We comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We do not sell personal information collected through cookies. See our Privacy Policy for CCPA-specific rights.
• Other jurisdictions: Where local cookie consent laws apply, we obtain consent before placing non-essential cookies, in accordance with the strictest applicable standard.
10. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, our practices, or applicable regulations. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. For material changes (such as adding a new category of cookies or changing our consent practices), we will reset your consent preferences so you can make an informed choice based on the updated policy.
